About this Guide
As Chairman of the HVCA Education Committee I feel privileged to introduce the new HVCA Employers Guide to fellow members of the Association.

I am pleased to announce that the guide has been developed to include the answers to many of the burning issues that we as an Industry have been discussing over the last few years and is now a comprehensive reference guide which is a must for any Employer who invests in training.

The guide aims to provide employers in the heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration industries with information about how to recruit and train new employees of all ages and from all backgrounds and experience.

Every year, the building services engineering sector must be able to attract, train and develop enough of the right calibre of people for it to satisfy internal demand, and for the businesses within it to grow and continue to prosper. It is no exaggeration, that successful recruitment, selection and training is the lifeblood of the HVACR Industries.

It is vital that all those employed in our industry - whether they are newly arrived to it, or established workers - receive appropriate vocational education and training throughout their working lives, and are able to select and follow a range of career opportunities.

Only with the proper, structured, training and support for your staff will employers be able to maximise their potential. Employee training is not simply a necessary business cost. It is an investment that can provide very impressive returns over many years.

The Guide is divided into four main sections:

  1. the business benefits of training new workers and workers with existing experience
  2. recruitment, training and assessment of apprentices new to the industry
  3. recruitment, training and assessment of workers with prior work experience within the industry
  4. sources of training support and other resources.

The Guide is applicable for employers of all types, specialisms and sizes across the HVACR Industries.
