 Toolbox Talks – Instructional Techniques

This course is coming to the Premier Travel Inn Innova Park, Enfield on Tuesday morning 15 July 2008

This is designed to be a short session to enable managers and supervisors to conduct effective Toolbox Talks.  It will incorporate Instructional Techniques and will make use of the normal range of materials available in the industrial workplace.

The training will provide delegates with the opportunity to use the HVCA’s Toolbox Talks Toolkit to develop and deliver a short talk.

The course will include peer feedback on presentation techniques in a “friendly” environment and should enable delegates to deal with the fears of public presentation.

The course will start at 09:00hrs and should be finished by 11:30hrs.

The course fee reflects the shortened training day and is £100 + vat and £70 + vat for HVCA & ECA members.

HVCA management courses

management coursesAll of the courses developed by the HVCA are tailored to the requirements of building services engineering and delivered by lecturers actively involved in the sector. A key aim is to cover subjects not addressed by other organisations.

HVCA training is recognised by the Construction CPD Certification Scheme and by the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers, and therefore qualifies for Continuous Professional Development recognition.

An HVCA course certificate will be issued to each delegate as proof of attendance, whether the course is provided by the Association itself or by one of its network of licensed training providers.

The new schedule of courses has been published. Click here for details of courses on commercial contracting and on risk management.

Licensed training providers

In order to ensure that its full range of management courses are available in the volume required to meet industry demand, the HVCA has licensed a network of organisations to deliver certain of its course materials and to issue HVCA-endorsed attendance certificates. However, the Association has no influence over the charging policies of these licensed training providers.

A list of the training providers licensed to deliver individual HVCA courses is provided in downloadable format.

SKILLcard course recognition

The health and safety awareness criteria set for Engineering Services SKILLcard registration are based around the HVCA's Working Safely in M&E and Managing M&E Safety courses (see above).

However, a number of other health and safety courses have been recognised as broadly equivalent to HVCA's Managing M&E Safety – thus satisfying SKILLcard requirements in relation to gold, platinum and black cards. These courses – listed below in downloadable format – have therefore been accredited by the HVCA, but only for delivery by the named training providers.

E-learning programmes

We have chosen e-learning as a means of helping you keep abreast of the latest developments, developing technologies, changes to regulations and new working practices.

E-learning will not replace the need for delegates to attend one day or two day courses (or longer) but will be used for the smaller "chunks" of learning that you can dip in and out of at your desk PC or laptop.
We will be drawing material from a wide range of sources and design some of our own. Some will attract a small fee but many will be free of charge.

The HVCA electronic Newsletter will be used to tell you when new e-learning modules have been posted on this website, so if you are not yet a subscriber and want to be alerted to new material click here. There are more than 40 modules in this series covering all aspects of sustainable technology applicable to building services.

These modules have been written by experienced and qualified members of the Energy Institute and will appeal to those new to energy management as well as those with more experience in traditional energy installations who need to upgrade their knowledge and skills.

The study material is free but if you wish to obtain a CPD certificate from the Institute of Energy there will be a small fee. This is explained in each of the modules.
