Third-party inspection and assessment takes place at the member/applicant’s premises and on-site.
In most cases, the independent assessor will first visit the member/applicant’s premises in order to assess the non-technical capabilities of the business.
In particular, he will be seeking evidence that the appropriate policies and procedures not only exist, but are fully implemented throughout the business and understood by the workforce.
Such policies and procedures are likely to embrace:
Once a date for inspection and assessment has been arranged, appropriate sites should be identified and the necessary arrangements made for access.
The assessor will then visit the site or sites – where work is either in progress or has been recently completed – to determine that the work complies with the established competence criteria, using checklists compiled for the purpose by the HVCA and BM TRADA.
A representative of the member/applicant will be present during the visit(s).
If any aspect of the work is found to be non-compliant, the member/applicant will be advised of the non-compliance at the time of the inspection, and will be given a timescale within which to confirm that the matter has been rectified.
